As Queensland’s premier Environmental Offset Property Management Specialist, Ausecology regularly designs and implements property-wide bush fire management strategies for its clients. A key tool in a property wide bush fire management strategy is a prescribed burn. Prescribed burns are routinely used by Ausecology as a land management tool to both improve and protect fauna habitat and protect clients’ assets from the impacts of wildfire. Carefully planned prescribed burns involves the design and implementation of a property wide fire break network, the identification of asset protection zones and
burn blocks, fuel load assessments, and the development of a detailed burn plan. The burn plan includes all permits and notifications that are required prior to undertaking the burn, identifying the area to be burned, and incorporates the specifications and conditions under which the burn operation is to be conducted.

One of the key steps to ensure the prescribed burn achieves its objectives is to
properly identify and protect significant habitat trees prior to the burn occurring. During burn preparation activities, the team clears a wide break around each tree which protects it from fire damage. The same is done with other important habitat features like fallen logs and rock piles. It is this attention to detail that enables Ausecology to uphold its own commitment to conservation and its client’s compliance
requirements.
