As one of Australia’s environmental leaders, Ian has 17 years of experience leading, designing and delivering large scale environmental programs. Before joining Niche, Ian was the Chief Operating Officer of Greening Australia and Managing Director of Canopy, Australia’s largest carbon reforestation company. Combined with an international career with mining companies such as BHP, South32 and Old Castle, he has gained practical insight into the land, resources, energy and agricultural sectors and has honed an exceptional ability to identify and develop natural capital projects through environmental markets.

Executive General Manager - Operations

Luke has over 15 years’ experience in the fields of natural area restoration, weed management and ecological consulting. He has been involved in a range of State Significant Infrastructure Projects and biodiversity offset strategic review for a range of clients, including: ARTC, South32-Illawarra Coal, Boral Resources, Walker Corporation, and Lend Lease. Luke is the biodiversity technical lead and member of Project Steering Committee for the ARTC Inland Rail Offset Program, which is the latest offsetting project in NSW. Luke has also completed Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs), Large-scale offset strategies, ecological monitoring surveys, vegetation surveys and mapping, Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessments, bush regeneration rehabilitation projects, and vegetation management plans.

At Ausecology, Megan leads the Land Restoration unit, overseeing multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based outcomes for clients across urban and regional environments. Her portfolio includes large‑scale biodiversity and natural resource management programs, with services spanning weed and pest animal management, restoration planning and implementation, ecological fire management, and the development of targeted site management plans. She is committed to building capability within her teams, strengthening client partnerships and ensuring that Ausecology’s programs are scalable, defensible and aligned with best‑practice natural resource management.

Tim Shields

Practice Leader - Ecology

Tim is a Practice Leader - Ecology at Ausecology with over 11 years of experience in terrestrial ecology, environmental offsets and conservation. Tim has vast experience across both the private and public sector specialising in environmental offsets, regional ecosystem mapping and environmental legislation. Tim also has strong experience in mine land rehabilitation with experience across multiple sites in Central and Southern Queensland, SEQ and the Hunter Valley. In addition, throughout his career he has worked on several threatened species, including authoring management plans and conducting surveys for black breasted button quail, brush-tailed rock wallaby, koalas, greater gliders, and platypus.

HSE Administrator

Melissa is the HSE Administrator overseeing work safety across Ausecology and Niche. Her strong foundational skills in job safety processes are invaluable to developing and maintaining Ausecology’s safety systems, safety ISO certifications, and approved contractor status with certain clients. Melissa oversees staff training, performs desktop and on-ground audits, and was responsible for deploying Ausecology’s advanced In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS).
